KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube held a high-level strategic engagement with the Acting Public Protector Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka aimed at strengthening relations in order to increase cooperation between the Public Protector South Africa (PPSA) and the Office of the Premier.
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Premier Dube-Ncube and Advocate Gcaleka committing the two offices to working together to effectively respond to the needs of communities.
The meeting also served to bring to the attention of Premier Dube-Ncube complaints raised with the PPSA by communities across the province for immediate attention.
Premier Dube-Ncube said: “We regard the Public Protector South Africa as an important independent institution that has been set up to strengthen our country’s constitutional democracy.
We had a very fruitful and robust discussion with Advocate Gcaleka and her team on how best we can work together to transform the state machinery to serve the cause of social change. It is important that as the provincial government we adequately understand the mandate of the Public Protector South Africa and develop capacity to timeously respond to the issues and complaints brought to the Office of the Premier.”
