Government is making good on its undertaking to relocate the April and May floods victims from Mass Care Centres (Community Halls) to more decent Transitional Emergency Accommodation (TEA) facilities against the 2022 Christmas Day deadline.
On Tuesday 13 December 2022 and Wednesday 14 December 2022 a massive relocation exercise got underway with the relocation of 531 families and 674 families respectively to a TEA in Albert Park area in central Durban and Pinetown.
Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube and MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba accompanied by eThekwini Municipality Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda together with Director-General Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize and Head of Department of Human Settlements Mdu Zungu as well as Departmental Chief Operations Officer Thulani Bhengu oversaw the relocation of the floods displacees to the identified properties.
This coming Saturday 17 December 2022 will also see the relocation of 23 families from the Truro Hall in Northern Area of Msunduzi Municipality to a TEA facility. The remaining five Mass Care Centres in KwaDukuza Municipality in Ilembe District are also set to be shut down by end of next week.
