The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government is satisfied about the state of readiness for the Annual Reed Dance to be hosted by His Majesty King MisuZulu kaZwelithini at the Enyokeni Royal Palace tomorrow (17TH September 2022).
Following intense preparations to ensure the success of the event, the KZN Government today received reports from the task team which is handling all logistics which has confirmed that it is all systems go for one of the major events on the province’s cultural calendar.
The Government has been assured by the Police and the entire Security Cluster that the safety of all attending this sacrosanct ceremony will not be compromised.
The Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster will ensure that all the vehicles and buses transporting the maidens are safe, roadworthy and that no alcohol or drink and driving will be allowed.
Umkhosi woMhlanga – the Reed Dance, is an ancient tradition during which maidens take reeds to the King’s Palace for the royal residences to be renewed. It is also an occasion to celebrate the maidens for their important role in the cycle of life in the traditional system of KwaZulu-Natal homes and communities.
The occasion is expected to draw thousands of maidens, local and international visitors and serves as a massive boost to tourism.
The Government of KwaZulu-Natal wishes all the maidens, their leaders and mentors, officials, attendees and all associated with the Reed Dance at safe and enjoyable occasion.
