Least We Forget: This should never happen in any future of South African humankind
Today we pay respect to bereaved families who lost their loved one in Phoenix. These families are from ward 59, 57 and 53. A total number of people who were killed in these areas 22, while another 8 are from Phoenix.
There are Indians amongst the deceased but the majority is Africans and mostly killed on the main road which should be preserved for free use by all. We pledged our condolences, and started working with families towards burials and counselling for them to eventually heal.
We also met with the investing team and will continue to provide it support and also monitored that all these cases are seriously investigated and perpetrators brought to books.
We must embark on an intense social cohesion programme to eliminate racism in all communities. We must equally ensure that we eliminate poverty and unemployment which are critical pillars for social cohesion and stability
We must commit to eradicate all forms of discrimination and build a prosperious society that will be at peace with itself. We should never allow such brutality to recur in any future of our country’s humankind.
