KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has directed the departments of Social Development, the uMkhanyakude operation Sukuma Sakhe War, to respond to the plight of the Ndlazi family in Hluhluwe northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Premier Sihle Zikalala who is also the champion of uMkhanyakude district will lead a coordinated government response to a viral video doing the rounds on social media showing two children selling home-made brooms on the in uMkhanyakude District.
The departments and Social Development and the war rooms are swiftly responding and are on the ground as we speak.
They will conduct a situation and a full profiling of the Ndlanzi family to determine the immediate and long term interventions by government. They will also assess what level of support government is currently providing.
"As KwaZulu-Natal Government, our stance against child labour is clear and our efforts to alleviate poverty in indigent families are well documented.
It is for this reason that we have are immediately responding comprehensively as government.
We applaud the community for not closing their eyes and ears to the plight of the Ndlazi family. We commend the community's action in bringing this matter to the fore, it reinforces the adage that as a community we are each other’s keeper.
We also encourage members of the community to continue being the eyes and ears of the community in need and to ever standby and watch the suffering of fellow compatriots ," said Premier Zikalala.
