KwaZulu-Natal Art, Culture, Sports and Recreation MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela will officially handover KwaQondile Library in ward 7 under Jozini Municipality in Umkhanyakude District municipality on Thursday 25 March 2021.
The handing over comes hot on the heels of National Library Week celebration that lasted from 15 to 22 March under the theme ‘libraries matter’. The handover could have not came at a better time of the year than this time when the country pays attention to human rights.
MEC Mavimbela view access to information through libraries as a basic human right also protected by our constitution. ‘Libraries matter especially now when the country is battling COVID-19 pandemic that compels us to have limited public gatherings which affects learning’, said MEC Mavimbela.
MEC Mavimbela views the handing over of KwaQondile Library as a gateway to information and internet access for 2 rural schools and a local population of more than 180 000 from ward 7.
As it stand we have already have a membership of 139 Adults and 343 children which totals to 482 members, concluded MEC Mavimbela.
