On Wednesday, 22 May 2024, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube delivered a keynote address in response to community issues raised during the service delivery and crime-fighting imbizo at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi Township.
The event was marked by several significant moments that highlighted the government's commitment to improving the lives of Umlazi residents. One such moment was when Mandlenkosi Makhanya of K40 in Umlazi Township could not hide his joy as Premier Dube-Ncube handed him a new house. This heartwarming gesture took place ahead of the imbizo.
Similarly, the Khoza family from K Section in Umlazi Township were overcome with joy and emotion when Premier Dube-Ncube handed over a house to them. This event occurred just before the Premier headed to King Zwelithini Stadium to host the community imbizo, focusing on service delivery and crime intervention.
Unbridled ululations reverberated across Umlazi Township, J Section, as Premier Dube-Ncube handed over a house to Gogo Patricia Bagangile Mchunu of J584. This presentation also took place on the morning of Wednesday, 22 May 2024, ahead of the crime and service delivery imbizo at King Zwelithini Stadium.
Premier Dube-Ncube's caring approach extended beyond housing. Mrs Mnyandu's plea for her unemployed child to be offered employment did not fall on deaf ears. The government, under Premier Dube-Ncube's leadership, offered Mrs Mnyandu's daughter employment to work on the rehabilitation of P725, which was part of Operation Siyahlola.
The community of Umlazi Township came out in their numbers to listen to Premier Dube-Ncube, who was accompanied by eThekwini Mayor Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, KZN Director-General Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, and Heads of Departments from various government sectors.
During the imbizo, two centenarians, aged 106 and 100, received certificates and were showered with presents by Premier Dube-Ncube, adding a festive touch to the serious discussions on service delivery and crime-fighting.
Agricultural cooperatives from Umlazi Township were not left behind. They were given gardening implements during the service delivery imbizo, underscoring the government's support for local agricultural initiatives.
Community safety was also a priority. Premier Dube-Ncube handed over tools of trade to the Community Police Forum (CPF) members, including cars that will be utilised by members of the CPF around Umlazi, Engonyameni, and Isiphingo. This initiative aims to enhance community policing and safety in these areas.
In another significant gesture, Premier Dube-Ncube handed title deeds to deserving families around Umlazi, granting them full ownership of their properties and securing their futures.
Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube's leadership was evident as she led the Provincial Government's service delivery and crime-fighting imbizo in Umlazi Township, south of Durban. Her hands-on approach and responsiveness to community needs set a positive tone for future engagements between the government and the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
