Health Minister the Hon. Dr. Zwelini Mkhize will usher the dawn of a new decade by visiting the first babies born in 2020 at King Dinuzulu Hospital in Durban on 1 January 2020.
On this auspicious occasion, The Minister will lead a strong delegation of leadership in KwaZulu Natal including KwaZulu-Natal Premier the Hon. Mr. Sihle Zikalala, acting KZN MEC for Health Mr. Kwazi Mshengu and KZN Health Head of Department Dr. Sandile Tshabalala.
King Dinuzulu Hospital (formerly King George V Hospital) was recently refurbished with a new state-of-the-art emergency center. This as part of government’s delivery on the commitments made in the Presidential Health Compact through the Public Health Infrastructure Refurbishment Programme.
“These babies are born at an exciting time when we have introduced the most important piece of legislature in the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill. The NHI is propelling us into a future where these children and their parents will enjoy high quality health services free at the point of care for the rest their lives. We want the children to be attended at clinics and hospitals with good infrastructure; adequate staff and medicine; and good administrative processes. King Dinuzulu Hospital is a showcase of the kind of health care that will be typified by NHI and so we are very proud that these children will know nothing less than the best,” added Minister Mkhize.
The Minister will also inspect the upgrades at the hospital and interact with the greater community of clients and health care workers in the facility.
The media is invited for a photo opportunity, a walk-through of the hospital and an interview with the Minister when he meets the mothers and their children.
