KwaZulu Natal Department of Social Development scooped two prestigious awards at the annual National Batho Pele Exellence Awards in Gauteng on Friday night.
These annual awards were hosted by the Department of Public Administration Deputy Minister, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, to acknowledge the best performing public servants across the country.
Two gold awards were handed over to Paulpietersburg Service Centre Office in Zululand District, named as Best Batho Pele Team of the Year, while Ms Ntombizodwa Phyllis Mabaso from UMzinyathi district, Dundee Service Office was named the Best General Worker of the Year, two runner up certificates for Best Frontline Employee of the Year awarded to Mrs Nokwazi Mbatha from Louwsburg Service Office, Zululand District and Best Operational Employee of the Year to Mrs Thabisile Msani from Isikhwani Service Office, King Cetshwayo District.
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development, MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza has extended her word of gratitude to all the employees of the Paulpietersburg Service Centre, Ms Mabaso, Mrs Mbatha and Msani for their achievements.
She said she was very happy that the Department has outstanding employees who continue to service communities with dignity.
The entire workforce of the Department and KwaZulu-Natal province should celebrate this achievement as it's an indication that we have good men and women in the Public Service, said MEC Khoza.
She added that receiving these awards is a sign of dedication that is always shown by government employees in rendering services to the public.
"These achievements are more compelling for all employees to continue performing at the best of their ability to serve our people, adhering to Batho Pele principles. Therefore, these gold awards should encourage other employees to up their game to ensure that next year we come back with more awards. We are all winners in the Department of Social Development," she said.
MEC Khoza also applauded the Customer Care Unit for ensuring that they continue with their work to monitor monitoring the quality of services that are rendered to communities.
The MEC also congratulated all staff members in the department for their continuous efforts to achieve the best.
"This process has been a long journey, but to receive such accolades is a huge achievement. Every success raises the bar a bit higher. In the next awards, we will be expected to hold onto our position and add more silverware to our cabinet."
