KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Mrs. Nonhlanhla Khoza together with the leadership of Santaco led a massive gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaign in Durban.
The eThekwini Metro has, in the recent past, recorded several incidents of GBV and this has compelled the government to enter into a partnership with taxi operators.
At the weekend the Department unveiled its partnership Santaco in Umthwalume where bodies of women were discovered dumped in a dense bush.
This partnership is aimed at ensuring that all sectors of society, including taxi operators and commuters, also play a meaningful role in the fight against GBV.
Government has been on a campaign to mobilise all members of the society including religious leaders, youth organizations, faith based organizations, traditional leaders and traditional healers to play their part in the fight against GBV.
