A plethora of law infringements in the Estcourt CBD are some of the things that confronted Edtea, MEC Mr Sihle Zikalala when he conducted a massive Business Regulation & inspection at some of the trading stores. Some of the violations ranged from expired foods, labour law infringements, illegally-run loan shark business.
The MEC was appalled, also at the violation of basic conditions of employment wherein some of the employees are kept overnight at the shop in, some makeshift sleeping bunkers. He was also shocked at the discovery of dozens of identity documents from an in-house loan shark business.
The MEC was compelled to pull out of the shelves some of the expired food products and cosmetic products while slapping the owners of the shop with notices.
Mr Zikalala promised to return unannounced back to the shop to ensure some of the compliance issues have been addressed.
