The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Kwazi Mshengu and the HoD, Dr Enock Nzama congratulates District Directors and school principals for their achievements during 7th National Education Excellence Awards held in Pretoria on Friday, 13 March 2020
The National Education Excellence Awards are aimed at celebrating sustained excellence in the basic education sector focusing on districts and schools. During the awards the Department of Education in KZN achieved as follows:
Ilembe District got position 2 in the category most improved district in the 2018/19 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams
Ugu District got position 3 in the category top performing district with overall percentage pass
Pinetown District got position 3 in the category top performing district using quality performance indicators
Ukhahlamba High School under Uthukela Distrcit was awarded under the category of club 100 schools for obtaining 100% pass from 2015 to 2019
Phumanyova Primary School under Zululand District got position 1, Menzi High School under Umlazi District got position 2 and Emhlwaneni High School got position three under the category top performing public schools with the highest overall score using selected quality indicators.
“We congratulate District Directors of the victorious districts and principals of victorious schools for flying the KZN flag high. If you look at the districts and the schools that emerged victorious during these awards, it shows that no matter how rural a district or school maybe located, if it has sound leadership, it is guaranteed to succeed. As we forge ahead and working with determination to improve on our NSC results, we hope that districts and schools are going to work extra hard, motivated by the results of the previous year,” said MEC Kwazi Mshengu.
