KwaZulu-Natal Premier Willies Mchunu and South African Consulate in Shanghai Thabo Thage have lined-up a series of meetings for the KZN delegation attending the Global Conference on Health Promotion and Mayors Forum in Shanghai.
Mchunu remarked on his arrival today: “We have brought warm greetings from the people of KwaZulu-Natal. We are here to tell a story of our desire to be part of the global community. We believe that we cannot prosper in isolation.”
“We want to state unequivocally that we are determined to take advantage of opportunities offered by being part of BRICS, an organization established to safeguard the interests of the so-called developing nations.”
“We commit to double our efforts to ensure that the people of KwaZulu-Natal benefit from BRICS. Our commitment is informed by the dedication of our leadership – starting from the President of the Republic of South Africa His Excellency J.G Zuma and the President of the Peoples Republic of China His Excellency Xi Jinping. Both presidents have worked hard to ensure that the bond between the peoples of China and South Africa remain strong.”
“On the sidelines of the conference we will engage with potential investors from the Municipality of Shanghai and Province of Guangzhou in order to further consolidate programmes aimed at implementing the Memorandums of Understanding signed with KZN.”
The Premier is accompanied by the MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and the Mayor of eThekwini Cllr Zandile Gumede.
The programme of the first day, Monday 21 November is scheduled as follows:
1. Attend opening of the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion starting at 10h45 at the 7F Grand Ballroom;
2. MEC attends Lunch of the Ministers at Huangpu River Hall;
3. Premier and Mayor attends the official Opening of Mayors Forum at 7f Pearl Hall;
4. Premier to participate in the panel discussion focusing on healthy cities. MEC and Mayor will be in attendance.
