KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Willies Mchunu, will this week visit the Alfred Duma Local Municipality (under uThukela) to launch the “I do Right Campaign” with the theme “I do Right even when Nobody is Watching.”
Following the establishment of municipal councils, the provincial government is intensifying efforts to ensure that elected public servants including civil servants adhere to accepted ethical standards. Importantly, the premier remarked: “We want to remind councils and municipal workers that this freedom belongs to ordinary members of society. It is them who must taste the fruit of democracy.”
“In addition, the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa states that a public administration must be governed by the democratic values and principles enshrined in the Constitution which includes that a high standard of professional ethics must be promoted and maintained; people’s needs must be responded to. Most important is the requirement that a Public Administration must be accountable,” said Mchunu ahead of the launch.
