On behalf of the executive council and all categories of staff in KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, Premier Willies Mchunu has expressed his condolences to the family of renowned broadcaster and government communicator Nat “Cool Cat” Gumbi.
Mchunu was speaking today ahead of the executive council meeting held in Pietermaritzburg.
“The news of the untimely death of ‘Cool Cat’ came as a shock to all of us although we were aware of his illness. This is a man who has been an invaluable asset not only to government but to the people KwaZulu-Natal as a whole.”
“Cool Cat was a remarkable person who throughout his professional life excelled in a variety of careers in broadcasting both as a presenter and an award-winning actor in various radio drama stories.
“He carved for himself a niche in the hearts and minds of millions of people throughout the country for his presenting skills in the most popular kiddies programme on Ukhozi fm. He was admired by his fellow colleagues and fans for his humility.”
“As we mourn with a deep sense of sadness the passing of this civil servant and a dedicated broadcaster, we say his untimely death is not in vain. Many aspiring broadcasters will be inspired by his dedication and his professionalism throughout his career.”
“We call upon the people of KwaZulu-Natal to pray and support the family and his friends during this period.”
