Making your rand go an extra mile ● Media statement and alert by the MEC for Finance Nomusa Dube-Ncube on assisting Department of Education withstand budget pressures. She will also outline efforts to ensure expenditure efficiency in government departments.
25 March 2021
Pietermaritzburg: I wish to inform the members of the media and the public at large that, today 25 March 2021, I will appear before KwaZulu-Natal Legislature to demonstrate our determination as Provincial Treasury to be a catalyst of service delivery.
We are looking forward to engaging with Honourable Members, who are the representatives of aspirations of the people of this province.
In tabling the Third Adjustments Appropriation Bill 2021, we will seek to ensure that all resources are deployed to assist the Department of Education to continue to provide quality education to our leaners.
Because of pressures associated with budget cuts as a result of negative economic conditions, we have taken a decision to be more alert and more responsive than ever before. We are continuously assessing the provincial budget performance and responding with speed and agility when budget pressures present themselves.
We will therefore outline budget adjustments which forms part of our appropriate responses to budget pressures experienced by the Department of Education.
Efforts to ensure that expenditure efficiency is improved in order to apply resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the social objectives of government are one of the main issues that keeps us awake at night.
It is for these reasons that tomorrow, we will also present the Unauthorised Expenditure Authorisation Bill, 2021. This forms part of our focus on the promotion of sound processes, controls and improved capabilities in departments and public entities in order to reduce unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure thereby improving audit outcomes across all government departments.
