As part of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government’s proactive efforts to drastically reduce crime and ensure a safer festive season, Premier Sihle Zikalala will launch the multi-disciplinary crime-fighting intervention programme titled Operation Vala on Friday, 11 December 2020 in the eThekwini Metro.
The main aim of Operation Vala, is to tighten security measures across the province through law enforcement operations, monitoring cross border and inter-provincial movement in order to ensure safety during the festive season period and beyond.
Premier Zikalala together with Members of Provincial Executive Council and eThekwini Metro Mayor will join intelligence driven multi-disciplinary operations targeting all forms of crime and also embark on a massive Covid-19 health and safety awareness drive at the Durban Beachfront and targeting restaurants.
KZN is still expecting an influx of vehicular traffic from other parts of the province this festive season, which is a welcomed boost for the tourism economy, but this requires enhanced policing of transport related crimes to reduce fatalities while containing the spread of Covid-19.
Therefore, this year’s Provincial Festive Season Safety Plan includes a focus on Covid-19, through increased enforcement and awareness of Covid-19 health and safety protocols, especially on public transport and public areas.
Details of the launch are as follows:
*Date : Friday, 11 December 2020*
