Finance MEC, Ravi Pillay, visited the Aryan Benevolent Home in Pietermaritzburg to personally convey his condolences to staff and residents.
This follows the passing of seven residents over the past 10 days. Dev Naidoo the chairperson of the Aryan Bennevolent Home said there was suspicion that some residents may have contracted Covid-19, but tests results were still pending.
The home currently has 21 residents left and 24 staff members. Naidoo said the facility had taken extra precautions to lessen chances of the residents and staff being exposed to Covid-19.
This includes providing staff with PPE, and enforcing its own stringent lockdown measures. Naidoo said residents and staff were very apprehensive.
