KZN PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT WISHES HIS MAJESTY KING ZWELITHINI GOODWILL KABHEKUZULU A HAPPY 72ND BIRTHDAY
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala on behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of KwaZulu-Natal wishes His Majesty King Zwelithini Goodwill KaBhekuzulu a Happy and Blessed 72nd Birthday today 27 July 2020.
The Premier has described His Majesty the King as a treasured father figure in the province who is playing an important role in fostering unity among the people of all races.
"Our province is blessed and highly favoured to have a unique leader such as Isilo Samabandla who is one of the world’s longest-reigning monarchs," said Premier Zikalala.
"Through the years, His Majesty has consistently led us with wisdom and bold honesty. He has been there providing a beacon of hope during the dark days of apartheid."
Premier Zikalala said His Majesty has always been at the forefront in the fight against the scourge of HIV/Aids in the province.
"He never shied away from providing leadership, and speaking out openly against HIV/Aids when it was ravaging our communities.
"Even as we navigate our way out of these unchartered waters of Covid-19, which has also affected the royal family, His Majesty is there, providing much-needed guidance," said Premier Zikalala.
His Majesty's Birthday is an important milestone as he is the longest reigning King of the Zulu nation and the second longest reigning monarch alive in the world.
The King is the custodian of Zulu culture and traditions and plays a significant role in the promotion of peace and reconcilliation.
He has also played a leading role in the promotion of abstinence from sex among young girls through the annual uMkhosi Womhlanga (Reed Dance) which he revived in 1994.
This has proven to be effective in curbing unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/Aids.
"We wish him well. We pray that the Almighty continues to guide him, so that he can continue to be with us for many, many more years to come," said Premier Zikalala.
